In this course, participants will learn the main components of a battery, its function, and the important parameters that we should know in order to evaluate its performance. Then they will look at how battery cells and systems can be tested to ensure they comply with required specifications, and how to interpret battery datasheets.

• Accurately use key terms related to energy storage in batteries
• Estimate the ideal maximum energy content of a battery pack given the rated capacity
• Explain the reasons for performing battery testing prior to the battery integration in applications
• Define main concepts of batteries, more specifically primary and secondary batteries, cell, module, pack, capacity, current rate, state of charge, gravimetric, and volumetric energy density
• Read and interpret battery datasheets

This is a foundation level course suitable to a general audience as well as an audience with low technical ability.
