What is this course about?

Batteries are everywhere, and all batteries carry some risks. In this course, you’ll get an overview of the potential dangers of different battery types. Then we’ll take a closer look at today’s battery workhorse: the lithium-ion battery. You’ll learn about the particular safety concerns with lithium-ion batteries, how to handle them to avoid those risks, and what to do if there’s an emergency involving a lithium-ion battery.

What will you learn?

Recognize and reduce risks associate with batteries and respond to emergencies involving lithium-ion batteries.

After this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the magnitude of risk associated with lithium-ion battery malfunctions
  • Handle batteries in a way that mitigates risk during and after the usable life of the battery
  • Act appropriately in the face of a lithium-ion battery fire
