European Solar PV Industry Alliance
Fostering and innovating solar PV value chains in Europe

The European Solar Photovoltaic Industry Alliance (ESIA) was launched by the European Commission with EIT InnoEnergy as Secretariat, joined by SolarPower Europe and the European Solar Manufacturing Council on the alliance’s steering committee,  with the objective of developing an industrial photovoltaic solar energy ecosystem  in Europe.

It seeks to support the European national sector and guarantee investment opportunities in order to reduce the risk of lack of supply in Europe and dependence on other countries outside the EU.

Currently, it has around 120 members who represent this industrial value chain from more than 17 countries and within different sectors.

Ambition

400,000

new direct and indirect jobs.

60 Billion

of new GDP per year in Europe

30 GW

annual solar PV manufacturing capacity

Priority actions

The alliance will foster an innovative and value-creating industry in Europe, by scaling up manufacturing of innovative PV products and components. Bringing key industry stakeholders together, the alliance works across all value chain segments including polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells, modules and recycling.

Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Market
To meet Europe’s renewable energy, we are launching an industrial alliance for solar energy. With the alliance’s support, the EU could reach 30 Gigawatt of annual solar energy manufacturing capacity by 2025 across the full PV value chain. The alliance will foster an innovative and value-creating industry in Europe, which leads to job creation here. Europe’s solar industry already created more than 357,000 jobs. We have the potential to double these figures by the end of the decade.
