InnoBlog: Building your network as an EIT InnoEnergy student

In fact, did you know that EIT InnoEnergy has a student organisation that you can be a part of? It’s called EIT InnoEnergy CommUnity, and it is a great network to be a part of!

I first heard about it upon my arrival in Stockholm in my first year, and was immediately intrigued: it seemed like a group of the most dedicated students, taking their passion for energy outside the classroom. They organised lunch and learns, speaker series and more to invite guests - from industry to government - to share that passion for energy with their fellow students and community.

After first serving as Communications Manager and later Local Manager, the organisation also gave me a great chance to further develop my leadership abilities. As the COVID-19 pandemic ensued, we continued to organise events online, like talks with alumni and CV workshops.

But the EIT InnoEnergy CommUnity is not only dedicated to learning about energy; it is also where I cultivated many of my friendships throughout the Master’s. For example, during the lockdown in my second year in Belgium, we had an online meet and greet, where we presented who we were, where we were from and fun facts about energy in our home countries. Despite of the virtual format, it was a great chance to connect and learn about things we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to!

Europe and the world. My peers, now alumni of the EIT InnoEnergy Master’s programmes, are working in the energy sector in various capacities; hearing about the inspiring work that they do is a positive reminder for me!

The CommUnity, which is active in most locations where you can study as an EIT InnoEnergy student, is constantly organising events. The Leuven CommUnity attended a laser tag event in June, then a visit to an offshore wind substation in Zeebrugge later in the summer. What’s your idea?
