Application Requirements

Waivers for EU and non-EU nationals:
 

• Students who have completed a higher education degree (University Bachelor's or Master's) fully instructed in English from a university or a university of applied sciences physically located in an EU or EEA country or Switzerland. The official language of the degree programme has to be stated in the degree certificate or its supplement, or in your transcript of records
  
  

• Students who have completed a higher education degree (University Bachelor's or Master's) in English from a university that is physically located in one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. Please note that branches from universities outside of the mentioned countries cannot be accepted to be granted a waiver.
  

EU and non-EU nationals interested in pursuing year 1 at IST: Instituto Superior Tecnico are allowed to apply without submitting English Test results. If you receive a conditional acceptance, you may still be required to submit a valid English test result by 15 July 2022 (intake 2022) as this could be a requirement from your year 2 university. Our Admissions Office will inform you about this in the acceptance letter. 

If you with to pursue your year 1 at any other institution, you will need to provide an English test result together with all documents required in the application form unless you are eligible for one of the waivers mentioned on this page. 

Specific waivers for EU national:

• EU Students who have completed high school with an advanced level of English in their home country and who wish to pursue their first year of studies at a university in the same country (i.e. student who completed high school in Sweden and would like to study an EIT InnoEnergy programme in Sweden) may be eligible for a waiver.
  
  
• EU Students who have completed high school with an advanced level of English in their home country and who wish to pursue their first year of studies at a university in a third country will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. An English Proficiency Waiver will depend on the first year university of interest.

Some of our Year 2 universities may still require you to submit an English test. In such case, a sufficient result on an English Proficiency Test needs to be provided before 15 July 2022 (for intake 2022). This information will be communicated to you in your acceptance letter. 

As a general rule, we do not accept statements from professors, or any other documentation regarding language of instruction.

An overall band score of at least 6.5 (with no section lower than 5.5) 

Students interested in following Year 2 of the Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems or Master's in Smart Electrical Networks and Systems at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e) are required an IELTS score of 6.5 with no section lower than 6.0.  

IELTS Indicator (B2 level) is accepted for students interested in the Master's in Energy Storage. IELTS Indicator is not accepted by any other programme. 

Please upload your offiicial IELTS Certificate in our admissions portal during the application process so that our Admission's office can verify the results.

Certificate in Advanced English, CAE (grades A – C)
Certificate of Proficiency in English, CPE (grades A – C)

LinguaSkills test (B2 level) completed at Grenoble INP are accepted for students interested in the programme Master’s in Nuclear Energy with year 1 at UPC: Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya.

You will need to share your results with Karlsruher Institute of Technology - KIT from Results Verification Service for Cambridge English exams using this link.

A total score of at least 92, with a minimum score of 22 from the writing section.

Students interested in following Year 2 of the Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems or Master's in Smart Electrical Networks and Systems at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e) are required a minimum score of 21 on each section.

Currently, we are accepting TOEFL IBT Home Edition as a result of national restrictions due to COVID-19. EIT InnoEnerdy does not accept MyBest Scores.

When you receive your official certificate, please upload it in the admissions portal so that our Admissions Office can verify the results.

You will also need to order a score report from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) system to be sent directly to the EIT InnoEnergy Admissions Office.  To do this, follow the instructions on the ETS website, using the institution code 0683 for Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). This code should be used for all EIT InnoEnergy Master School programmes, even if your chosen programme takes place at another university.

When you visit the ETS website, select KIT and then choose the option either ‘Graduate schools’ or ‘any department not listed’. The ETS score report will be sent to the EIT InnoEnergy Admissions Office directly. We will verify the scores online. Only after your order of the score report for KIT will we be able to access your score report data online. Without your order from ETS, we are not able to verify your result and cannot consider it.

Please note that it can take several weeks for your test scores to arrive and be available from ETS.

IELTS
If you can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency since taking the test, we may accept your application. You will need to meet at least ONE of the following criteria:

• You have completed one semester of English studies in the past two years (for an example during an exchange). We accept official transcripts or confirmation of your stay at the host university as proof.
• You have worked for at least three months in an entirely English environment in the past two years (for example, during an internship or employment). We accept an employer’s statement about the duration of your contract and the official language as proof.
• You have taken a B2 or C1-level English exam at your university, language school or online in the past two years. We accept a course or language certificate as proof.

CPE/CAE
If you can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency since taking the test, we may accept your application. If you have a CPE or a CAE certificate and can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency, we will consider your application on a case-by-case basis. You will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:

• You have completed one semester of English studies in the past two years (for an example during an exchange). We accept official transcripts or confirmation of your stay at the host university as proof.
• You have worked for at least three months in an entirely English environment in the past two years (for example, during an internship or employment). We accept an employer’s statement about the duration of your contract and the official language as proof.
• You have taken a B2 or C1-level English exam at your university, language school or online in the past two years. We accept a course or language certificate as proof.

TOEFL
Unfortunately, TOEFL results are only valid for two years from the date of the exam, and we cannot accept results which are already expired. You will need to re-sit your exam, or take a relevant IELTS, CAE or CPE qualification.

We recommend that you plan your English tests in plenty of time, as we will not consider any documents received after the set deadlines.

Your English Proficiency Test needs to be submitted together with your other application documents before the application deadline of each Round unless you wish to pursue your year 1 at IST: Instituto Superior Tecnico. In such case, you may receive a conditional offer and would need to provide an English Test result by 15 July 2022 (intake 2022) You can review the application deadlines here.

If you cannot upload your proof of English proficiency before the deadline of a specific round, you will be able to upload it in your account in our application system and submit your application in the next round. You will need to clone your original application and choose the appropriate round. 

Please review the below section ‘Prepare the required documents’ for details on how to submit your English Proficiency Test.

• A completed Bachelor’s degree* worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in engineering (in topics like mechanics, chemistry, electricity, electronics or energy) or in engineering physics, which refers to the study of the combined disciplines of physics and mathematics, together with studies in engineering disciplines:
  
  
• Applicants holding a bachelor degree in electricity and / or electronics must also demonstrate good foundation in material science and in thermal science (the combined study of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics). Applicants who lack this background cannot be accepted to pursue year 1 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. They are adviced to apply to Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST) as year 1 institution, where they can follow harmonization courses to fulfill the gap in this knowledge area. This will allow them to proceed to year 2 at any of the other partner universities.
  
  
• Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering must also demonstrate a good foundation in circuit theory, electrical machines and electronic fundamentals. Applicants who lack this background cannot be accepted to pursue year 1 at UPC Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. They are adviced to apply to Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST) as year 1 institution, where they can follow harmonization courses to fulfill the gap in this knowledge area. This will allow them to proceed to year 2 at any of the other partner universities.
  
  
• Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in another topic that covers the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, chemistry, material sciences, thermal sciences and electrical engineering, will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the MSc RENE Steering Committee.
  
  
• In all cases, knowledge in the principles of economic sciences (macro and microeconomics) and in engineering projects are appreciated.

*Students who have not completed their Bachelor's degree while applying in Rounds 1 & 2 (intake 2022) are not eligible to pursue their year 1 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Only candidates who have already completed their studies and/or graduated will be evaluated by KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Candidates who are still pursuing their Bachelor's degree while applying in Rounds 1 and 2 are advised to apply for another year 1 institution (UPC, L'X, IST) or to apply for KTH as year 1 institution in application Round 3. 

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in one of the following subjects: physics, chemistry, engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or electrical engineering.
  
  
• Applicants must have achieved an average grade of at least 70%. This is crucial to be eligible for the Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems.
  
  
• You will also need to submit a separate letter giving your reasons for application.
  
  
• If you want to study at TU/e Eindhoven on the 2nd Year, you will need to meet higher English requirements. More info in the FAQs section.

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in engineering – for example mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering – or science.
  
  
• The courses covered in your Bachelor’s degree must have covered the fundamentals of electrical and mechanical engineering:
  • Basics of thermodynamics and heat transfer
  • Basics of electrical energy systems and electrical machines
  • Basics of systems and control
    
    
• You will also need to submit a separate letter giving your reasons for application.

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in one of the following subjects: mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, mechatronics engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering, electronic engineering.
  
  
• Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in another engineering or related subject may submit an application that will be assessed by the MSc ENTECH Admission Committees on a case-by-case basis, comprehensive knowledge in Higher Mathematics is needed.
  
  
• Students interested in pursuing year 1 at Uppsala University are required to hold a BSc degree with at least 90 credits of electrical engineering topics including circuit theory, electromagnetism, electronics, electrical engineering and control technology. Also, they are required to have at least 30 credits of mathematics including linear algebra, computational science, statistics and multivariate analysis as well as practical experience of laboratory work and ability to use computer-based calculation aids. Candidates who do not fulfill this criteria are adviced to apply to IST: Instituto Superior Tecnico as year 1 institution, where they can follow harmonization courses to fulfill the gap in these knowledge areas. This will allow them to proceed to year 2 at any of the other partner universities*
  
  
• After you have applied for the programme and have received your application number, please fill in this form and send it to admissionsoffice@innoenergy.com indicating your first name, last name and applicant ID. There is no need to submit it with your application documents already.
  
  
  *Additional requirements to access Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in year 2 may apply

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in electrical engineering or related field; for example: physical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering or any energy-related engineering subject. Applicants must have achieved an average grade of at least 75%.
  
  
• At least 60 ECTS credits or equivalent from your Bachelor’s degree must be in the area of electrical engineering.
  
  
• At least 30 ECTS credits or equivalent from your Bachelor’s degree must be in mathematics and include the following subjects: calculus, numerical methods, algebra, probability theory, and basic control theory.
  
  
• You will also need to submit a separate letter giving your reasons for application.

• If you want to study at TU/e Eindhoven on the 2nd Year, you will need to meet higher English requirements. More info in the FAQs section.

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in electrical, mechanical, chemical, energy engineering or similar.
  
  
• Your Bachelor’s degree must have covered the fundamentals of mathematics.

• A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in one of the following subjects: physics, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering.
  
  
• Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in another subject, but which covers the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and mechanics, will be considered by the EMINE programme directors on a case-by-case basis.
  
  
• You will also need to submit a separate letter giving your reasons for application.

In the case of your degree certificate and transcript of records, we require an assembled pdf with a copy of the certificate in its original language and a version translated into English by a licensed translator. If your original degree certificate and/or transcript are in English, no translation is needed.

If you have not yet graduated, you will need to upload one of the following documents:

• A written statement from your university’s administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled in the final year of your study programme and stating your expected completion date.
• A statement with your expected completion date and an enrolment certificate with the number of your current semester.

If you hold a Bachelor’s degree, you will need to upload a copy of your degree certificate.

If you have already completed a Master’s degree, please upload a copy of your Bachelor’s degree and a copy of your Master’s degree.

The document should include all the courses you have taken. We need a copy in the original language and a version translated into English by a licensed translator. If your original degree certificate and/or transcript are in English, no translation is needed.

If your university issues transcript of records with the overall grade, please upload it with it.

If you have taken a “classe préparatoire” in France or a country with similar education system, please upload the transcript of the classe préparatoire together with your other transcript (one pdf-document).

You will need to arrange ONE of the following unless you are eligible for a waiver based on the information mentioned above:

University of Cambridge/University of Oxford Certificates (CPE/CAE certificates)

• Please indicate the expected test date in your application form and submit the necessary proof via the application portal before the application deadline of each specific Round

Results with more than two years

If your IELTS or CPE/CAE certificate is more than two years old, but you can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency, please upload your proof together with your IELTS or CPE/CAE certificates. We will accept the following:

• Proof of one semester’s study in English
• Proof of work or internship in an English environment
• Proof of an additional English exam

If you intend to apply for an English proficiency waiver:

• Students who attended a university physically located in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand should simply upload a copy of their degree certificate as part of the normal application process.
• Students who attended a university physically located in the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland should upload a diploma supplement or degree certificate or transcript of records showing English as the only language of instruction.
• Students who studied at any other institution may not apply for an English proficiency waiver. This also applies to branches of universities not located in the countries mentioned above.

Please ensure your CV includes details of your academic and professional career to date.

Please send a copy of your passport or official ID card (in English) or other official proof of identity.

Students applying to the Master's in Smart Electrical Networks and Systems, Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems and Master's in Nuclear Energy programmes must also submit a motivation letter, giving your reasons for applying to the programme. 

You must include a separate motivation letter for each of the relevant programmes you are applying for. The length of the motivation letter is max 1500 words. You can add the text to your application in the online application portal.

Students applying to the Master's in Renewable Energy and the Master's in Energy for Smart Cities are encouraged to submit the link of an elevator pitch video (max 2 min) giving the reasons for applying to the programme. If you can not make a video, you do NOT have to submit a motivation letter as the evaluation will then be based on the answers of the motivation questions in the application form.
