On Thursday 10 December, Lien Van Schepdael and Giovanna Sauve – together with Xavier Crusat, Innovation Manager – from MSc Energy for Smart Cities, presented their innovative proposal to several companies during a networking day in Barcelona. This event, organised by Smart Living Plat, attracted mainly Spanish cities with smart city projects, related firms and other stakeholders.
Lien and Giovanna worked on these proposals during the Smart Cities Course, together with their team as well as the rest of the 52 young engineers and 10 companies that presented their innovation challenges. During this 9-day event they got to know the co-operating companies and their innovation challenges, worked on their innovation proposal, and finally presented it to a jury. Lien and her team developed an innovative proposal for SIARQ, a company that designs and produces public lighting with photovoltaic generation and battery storage. Their challenge was to introduce self-sustainable lighting for the urban concept of a smart city. Whereas Giovanna’s team worked together with everis, a strategic consulting company providing business solutions, and the application and development. The team elaborated on an innovative product or service that provides added value to the urban district level in the European project “District of the future” (FP7).
Together with the companies they presented their first innovative proposal at the 3rd networking day for companies with solutions for smart cities. Lien and Giovanna will further develop their proposals during the next stop of the Innovation Journey in March: BIZ bootcamp.
