During the Summer School of the MSc Energy for Smart Cities, KIC InnoEnergy offers you a programme full of challenges and new learnings so you can become game changers in the energy domain from a cities and buildings perspective. Starting with two days to boost your creativity with “Sistematic Inventive Thinking”, you’ll learn to deconstruct topics from Smart cities projects and come up with better solutions. Next you’ll dive into a role play with the business creation team of Benelux. We’ll also visit a Smart Cities project/company. And you’ll be developing effective key competences for entrepreneurship such as communication and leadership. As farewell inspiring activity, we will hold a co creation session of the future program. Off course we will have also some social activities and more planned for you, but we have to keep some surprises, don’t we!

Master Thesis Prize
During the Summer School also the Master Thesis Forum will be organized for you as MSc Energy for Smart Cities students to present your Master’s Thesis and apply for a €500 prize!
This year the awards consist of two prizes worth €500 each for the two winning thesis, one on innovation and one on entrepreneurship.

For the 2015 edition of this Master Thesis Prize, the organization is opening the application to other KIC InnoEnergy master students addressing challenges related to Energy for Smart Cities. For instance, integration of renewable energy in buildings, storage in households or electromobility in smartgrids might be student master thesis topics of RENE, SELECT or SENSE master programmes among others. Students will receive this information via email from their Programme Directors.
For who is the Summer School 2015?
The Summer School will be qualified as 3.0 ECTs for first year master students, both KIC InnoEnergy MSc Energy for Smart Cities and Master Energie of KU Leuven.
For second year students of the MSc Energy for Smart Cities is advisable but not mandatory. As you may realize having a look at the programme, most of the activities are being designed as a follow-up of the success of previous joint activities. As announced in the Kick-off of this academic year, we are designing it having in mind we will be welcoming almost all of you.
Alumni of the MSc Energy for Smart Cities are warmly welcome if you might be interested in any of the day-modules. We specially invite you to join the Master Thesis forum on the 1st July afternoon. We would like to highly request you to participate in the future program co-creation session on Saturday the 1st July.
PhD students are also welcomed to participate in any of the day-modules. Just need to take into account the capacity is limited and earlier registration is recommended.
How to register? Expenses?
First year students of the MSc Energy for Smart Cities are automatically registered, since it is mandatory in your study programme. The programme is covering the expenses of your attendance. The trip is being organized by your current university coordinator. If you have any dietary conditions or allergies, please send them asap to Nele Emmers Nele.Emmers@esat.kuleuven.be.
For second year students, please send confirmation by email to your current university coordinator within the following days or beginning June at the latest. The programme will be able to cover the expenses of your attendance.
Alumni, please send an email beginning June at the latest to firstname.lastname@example.org. The programme will also be able to cover the expenses of your attendance.
For students of the Master Energie of KU Leuven there are limited seats available. The programme of the Summer School will be published in KU Loket soon. The students interested to attend it should submit a motivation letter by email to email@example.com with the Programme Director’s email Lieve.Helsen@kuleuven.be in copy until the 15th of June. The expenses of the accepted students covering partially their attendance will be invoiced by KU Leuven to the attendees. These costs are estimated as per accommodation (€200) and meals/social activities (€150) per attendee. All the other expenses regarding the organization of the Summer School and the venue are sponsored by KIC InnoEnergy.
