InnoEnergy, Europe’s sustainable energy innovation engine supported by the EIT, announces the appointment of Matthias Machnig, former State Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, as its Head of Industrial Strategy.
Matthias Machnig was Minister for Economics, Labour and Technology in Thuringia, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Federal Ministry for the Environment and until April 2018 in the Federal Ministry of Economics. Based in Berlin, Machnig will support the development of industrial strategy as well as working with the European Battery Alliance to help transform the sustainable energy and automotive industries. Machnig brings an extensive network and a wealth of experience in industrial innovation, transport and energy policy to the role and will prove invaluable as Europe moves towards its vision of a cleaner automotive industry.
Machnig will drive InnoEnergy Germany’s business development by strengthening relationships with industrial partners and stakeholders across the automotive, energy and political markets.
Machnig said: “InnoEnergy’s work spans strategic industrial and innovation fields across Europe. European business competitiveness relies on the networking of companies, scientific and political institutions in this space, and my work for the company will support this approach.”
As part of its mission, InnoEnergy has a mandate from the EU Commission to lead the industrial part of the European Battery Alliance and is ready to make a significant contribution to the successful development of a European battery industry. InnoEnergy also intends to expand its activities in the field of mobility by linking energy-related topics and to help shape the transformation of the automotive industry with its expertise and services.
