Novel dry sorter for coal processing and coal recovery from mine originating wastes

The project’s objective is to develop a coal – barren rock sorting unit for coal mining industry. The sorter uses air flow as a separating medium. The machinery will also be suitable for enrichment of low-caloric coals recovered from post mining waste dumps. Apart from that, it should be possible to use the sorter for mineral fractions separation with a view of application in geo-engineering.

The project’s objective is to develop a coal – barren rock sorting unit for coal mining industry. The sorter uses air flow as a separating medium. The machinery will also be suitable for enrichment of low-caloric coals recovered from post mining waste dumps. Apart from that, it should be possible to use the sorter for mineral fractions separation with a view of application in geoengineering. Recovered coal can be further used in highly efficient power technologies, according to CCT. There will also be possible to use low caloric coal in methane oriented gasification processes. By using the novel equipment it will be possible to do the following:

  • Improve the effectiveness of separation of barren rock from coal, thus improving coal quality (caloric value),
  • Improvement of energetic efficiency of coal usage in, both, commercial installations (power plants and heating stations) and households,
  • Limitation of the emission of harmful substances to the environment, particularly fine dusts causing human health problems,
  • Limitation of CO2 emission, due to effective usage of high caloric coal,
  • Reduction dangerous solid wastes amount,
  • Elimination of water usage in coal enrichment process.

Overall Status: 

Finalized the feasibility study.

Development of Air Separation Machine device, that would include assessment of the technical properties of materials/waste intended for separation, drafting of a mobile pilot plant for dry separation and a complex project of its on-site construction, testing of separation efficiency, preparation for mass production.
