This is an introductory course to the technologies used in smart electricity grids. During the course you will be able to take part in a series of lectures given by the leading specialists in smart grid technologies, workshops and structured site visits to build your knowledge of modern solutions for intelligent power networks.

The course covers the following key topics:

  • The essential technologies for intelligent power grids
  • Ensuring reliability and security in electricity supply
  • Security systems and the use of synchrophasors for power grids
  • Maintaining quality of electrical energy in distributed generation systems
  • Data security and protection in the smart grid
  • Energy storage and its role in smart and distributed power systems
  • Managing demand and response in intelligent power systems
  • Introduction to power-system economics
  • Microgrids and their technology
