Dynamic glass powered by the sun

A collaboration will investigate if newly patented high-transparency solar cells from InnoEnergy supported start-up Peafowl Solar Power can power dynamic glass from ChromoGenics.

During 2019 Nasdaq-traded ChromoGenics will test powering their dynamic glass with newly developed high-transparency solar cells. The patented cells have been developed by Peafowl Solar Power, a spinoff from the world leading research center at Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University, Sweden, supported by InnoEnergy Highway® programme. Dynamic glass controls transmission of heat and light and can save up to 50% on cooling and heating costs. Combining the dynamic glass window with a transparent solar cell would eliminate the need for an external power source and thus reduce installation costs significantly and increase flexibility of placement.

The cell developed by Peafowl Solar Power has unparalleled design flexibility that can be combined with different materials and made to any degree of transparency or colour.

About Peafowl Solar Power

Peafowl Solar Power develops a new kind of transparent solar cell. They use plasmonic nanoparticles as light absorbers which enables very efficient absorption of the intercepted light, which in turn means the cell can function even when very little light is intercepted – i.e. high transparency.
