Connect Ideas2Business 2016 Conference in Karlsruhe hosted “marketplace” for sustainable energy technologies

On 2nd May 2016, sustainable energy technology developers got the chance to meet technology users and investors during the fourth annual Connect Ideas2Business conference. The conference – which was held at the Industrie- und Handelskammer Karlsruhe – brought together innovators with a product, service or business idea in the field of sustainable energy, in a specially designed “marketplace” where they could exhibit and pitch their ideas to potential investors and customers. A total of 160 representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, start-ups, large companies, research institutes and energy network operators attended the event which was hosted by KIC InnoEnergy Germany, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum and fokus.energie The morning session included keynote speeches from Günther Leßnerkraus, Head of Department “Industry, Innovation and Business Relevant Research” at the Ministry of Finance and Economics Baden-Württemberg and from Dr. Raid Gharib, Head of Department “Environmental, Energy and Technology Policy” at Baden-Württembergischer Handwerkstag e. V. Moreover, representatives from industry and academia discussed how new business models contribute to the energy market of the future. Tangible  examples of such new business ideas were then given  in the following pitch sessions  which featured technologies from a wide variety of energy fields such as energy from chemical fuels, smart electric grid, energy efficiency, energy storage, renewable energy and more. Among them were several solutions from KIC InnoEnergy’s portfolio. Christian Müller, CEO of KIC InnoEnergy Germany, said: “As its name suggests, the event is designed to create a space where we can connect innovators and their ideas to business. Innovation is vital if we are to continue the drive towards a more sustainable energy future but one of the greatest challenges innovators face is getting their concepts to market. This event aims to help join the dots – to connect those with amazing ideas in sustainable energy to industry and potential investors.”
